1700’s Ancient South Indian Goddess Lakshmi Wooden Statue

103956

The goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, holds two lotus blossoms, a symbol of beauty, prosperity, and fertility, with her other two hands in the Abhaya mudra, indicating that her devotees have nothing to fear from her. Her ornate headpiece, jewels, and clothing are all exquisitely crafted, befitting a goddess of wealth. A lovely arch surrounds Lakshmi, with Mahakala, or “great time,” rising above. Mahakala is regarded as the Devouter because everything gets destroyed by time in the end. The wood craftsmen in South India created this Lakshmi sculpture. It’s absolutely one-of-a-kind, as there’s only one like it!
